• All about fun; visit the city’s most modern and most historic amusement parks
• Climb through waterfall caves and giant tree houses at a children’s botanic garden
• Ride the cable car to an island with shark aquariums, rainbow reefs and roller coasters
The old and new versions of Singapore’s amusements provide a telling contrast between the quieter decades of the ’70s and ’80s and today’s relatively freewheeling times. The Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden is set in the tranquil Botanic Garden, which has been an oasis in the city since 1859 and was recently named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The little ones can explore the Waterfall Cave or climb into the giant tree house (complete with a colorful escape chute) while you sneak a peek at the famed orchids. Then hop a cab to Harbour Front and ride the Singapore Cable Car to the new entertainment quarter, Resorts World Sentosa. From your perch nearly 300 feet above the sea, you’ll see the immense and sprawling port with the city skyline just beyond. At the end of the line, you’ll land on the resort island of Sentosa which is filled with beach clubs, surf simulators, Segway tours, a Universal Studios, and more. The domed shark habitat at the new S.E.A. Aquarium, which teems with hammerheads, silvertips, and sandbar sharks, gets our vote. Or if you want to stay cool, shoot through the loops and chutes of the region’s first hydro-magnetic coaster Riptide Rocket, or swim with some 20,000 fishes in Rainbow Reef at Adventure Cove Waterpark—either way, there’s enough here to keep your kids distracted for days.
Explore all the beauty of the Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden, located right on Bukit Timah Road. Then, hop on a Singapore Cable Car at Fable Peak, the park just north of the West Coast Highway. At the end of the cable car line, you’ll land on the resort island of Sentosa, filled with the city’s best family fun.
