• Start at the west end and shop your way down this mall-lined road • Browse whimsical dresses, local handmade jewelry and worldly home decor• Men, get great gear at a local concept store and a menswear design collective• Find a city backstreet for 1920’s Peranakan mansions and stylish cocktail barsTo those who regularly shop in New York, London, and Paris, this mall-lined road can seem humdrum (who knew there could be so many Hush Puppies and Clarks stores on one thoroughfare?). But trust us, there are some worthy gems. Start at the west end with edit lifestyle, where the clothing and home decor reflects their international nature. Next up is Orchard Central, where you’ll find a concept store called Pact, which houses menswear from local label sifr, inventive food and beverages at Kilo, and acclaimed hairdressers PACT+Lim, among others. The stand-alone Keepers design collective is stuffed with Singaporean standouts, including gauzy dresses from Aijek and sharp suits for men by Q Menswear. At this point, a quick detour is warranted to check out the circa-1920s Peranakan mansions lining Emerald Hill Road, which runs right behind Keepers. Most shops stay open until 10 p.m., so you can end with a cocktail at Horse’s Mouth, stylishly tucked away below a ramen restaurant, or compose a gourmet feast from the smorgasbord of Japanese purveyors downstairs in Japanese giant Takashimaya’s food court. We recommend starting your shopping journey on Tanglin Road. More specifically, start where Tanglin Road intersects with Tomlinson. Then, following Tanglin all the way down until it becomes Orchard Road. You’ll find all the best shopping along the way.EDIT LIFESTYLE: 137-139 Tanglin Road, Tudor Court; +65-6836-5686;PACT: 181 Orchard Rd., #02-16/17/18/19 Orchard Central KEEPERS: 230 Orchard Rd.; +65-8299-7109;HORSE'S MOUTH: 583 Orchard Rd.; +65-6235-1088;TAKASHIMAYA: 391 Orchard Rd.; +65-6506-0458;
